Winter Night Shots

Just a few night shots I managed to get recently! I loved how the trees were backlit by the lights of Corner Brook, or the highway behind it. For (much) better quality, you can check these shots out on Flickr here.

I’m also going to throw out there how a skidoo ride for a Friday night is definitely not a bad way to go, at the risk of sounding extremely Newfie! Even though the groomed trails in certain parts still resemble more of a pretty uneven roller coaster at this point, and how I might still be feeling it a bit in my shoulders (a camera backpack full of two people’s gear definitely isn’t light) it was worth it for sure.

Much love,

Epiphanies

So Christmas has came and went (entirely too fast) and school starts up again tomorrow. It’s crazy, I think I blinked and there went the entire Christmas vacation! Past having to print like crazy right up until that last week before the 25th, it was the best Christmas I’ve had for sure. I do wish I got to spend more time taking photos, but I think the break from anything school/work related was nice. The feature in the Western Star ran too and although it reads pretty formal (I was quoted a bit awkwardly, haha) you can check that out here if you’d like!

On the camera side though, I finally got my new Epiphanie bag for Christmas and managed to make a few updates to my kit too! After having lugged a heavy titanium loaner from school around for the past month after my SLIK one broke, the new tripod was definitely a welcome upgrade, and… I should be saying a huge welcome to a new 100mm macro in the next few weeks as well! Soo all of that, being said I figured its about time to upgrade and intsead of just having a FB group for promotion, I’m going to aim to have my website out in the next month or two! I’m doing a smaller course-load this semester, so I’d like to treat the website as a separate project and work on it a few days a week until its ready to go public by late February/early March. Fingers crossed!

Also, to anyone who checked out my last Instagram post and wanted to follow, my username is @can_cunning! I didn’t realize until after that I forgot to put up my username.

Much love!

Instagram Favorites & Updates

Considering the lack of [actual camera] photos I’ve been able to take lately (considering how school has been madness and stillllll hasn’t wrapped up), I figured I’d share a few Instagram favorites from the past while!

On the updates side the new bartending job at McHugh’s is going awesome, I just booked yet another wedding for next year, and after the Western Star ran this feature with Dru a few weeks ago its apparently my turn next and I have a full-page feature coming out on this Tuesday the 20th! The only thing left now is for my print course to finish up and then I can finally start to appreciate Christmas break. And time to catch up on sleep, please?

Much love,

Candace

Noelle & Tom

I had the best time shooting Noelle & Tom last week at Marble Mountain, and I can honestly say I can’t wait for their wedding next September! That… and she has the prettiest hair. Ever.

On the university side, there are maybe 10 days left until term is over? I’m just about ready to stop counting days, and start counting hours seeing how all this pretty snow we’ve been getting has me hearing Christmas music in my head. It’s not even here yet, and this Christmas is already looking the best. Not to mention how a new Lola Epiphanie camera bag is something I’m trying reaaally hard not to find from its hiding spot!

Much love,

Candace

Hasselblad Negatives

I juust finished developing my two rolls of Hasselblad film, and all I have to say is whoaaa. I’ve really been dragging my feet about using this camera half due to the expensiveness of this project (almost $100 just for 50 sheets of large scale paper to print on alone), but I know when its all said and done having these negatives printed off on 11×14 paper will soo be worth it. Honestly, the size of the negatives and the quality of the film is insane! I’ll definitely post a photo of my 4 main prints, too.

Film is killing it – again!

Much love,

Film IS the Best

As much as I love my digital camera, which I honestly dearly do, there’s still something about film I frigging love. Maybe its because you have to be so much more careful because “spraying and praying” isn’t really an option – you have 24 shots and by the time you get the film back there’s always that anticipation of seeing what you shot seeing how the LCD screen check just isn’t an option.

That being said, I just had three 35mm colored rolls developed yesterday after shooting off two rolls of Hasselblad film for a school project (massive thanks to Dru and Reo, I’ll definitely do another post once I have that film done off soon!) and so far the 35mm shots are definitely my favorite ones I’ve done off in a while. Film IS the best, for suure. You can’t fake grain people! Or that coloring either.

Much love and hope you like!

Lauren

I just finished editing through a shoot I had in the park two weeks ago, and I figured I’d share some of my favorites. Lauren and her family were suuper easy to work with, not to mention her being ADORABLE. Look at her cheeks! She is such a little doll.

And its back to the editing again for me. Out of all my editing I’ve had to go through, I’m now down to having one last wedding to go,which I have to admit has definitely been my favorite so far. A small autumn wedding where we got to shoot out on the beautiful grounds and fields by Strawberry Hill? Um, YES. I’ve been joking with the bride that I’m only going to accept clients through her now, because she knows how its done! (Stress free, on all sides!)

Much love,

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from my favorite little chicken in the world! I did this shoot a few weeks ago, and still smile when I look at the pictures. My little babe of a cousin is toooo cute <3

On a blogging note, the month break definitely wasn’t intentional! I’ve just had so much photo work piled up I didn’t want to be posting new material from my new camera when I still had one wedding left from August that I was still working through. But after a few swift kicks to my own behind (and a very productive Friday night to myself with my Mac and a few good movies playing in the background for sanity reasons) I managed to finish off the very last of my summer editing. Waking up Saturday morning with that done was such a huuge relief! Four more weeks, one fall wedding to edit, a few other shoots to edit, and too many school projects and I will be enjoying Christmas break to the v.e.r.y. fullest.

And its back to the editing madness!

Much love;

10 000 Views!

Considering how my blog is only about a year and a half old, and considering how I only decided to put it facebook public about a month or two ago – the fact that it’s just hit 10 000 views is CRAZY to me!

There’s been such an explosion of support, subscriptions, comments, and views (and even people who have mentioned to me in person how they’ve had a look around) that I have to say a huuge thanks! It can definitely be discouraging sometimes with trying to keep constantly producing new work and being pleased with it, but it’s all a learning process and at the end of the day I’m definitely happy with where I am with everything right now. So that being said, I hope you keep checking back and by all means have at the comment box too! Getting feedback here is the best, constructive criticism especially : )

[Soo] much love,

First Digital Photo Project of the Year

First of all, sorry for the lack of updates! Getting back to school and out of work mode (the three job thing is still a bit overwhelming even though its slowly starting to slow down) is going a bit slow. I really got used to keeping up a good photo momentum this summer along with work and such, so its hard to have other projects on the go plus wedding editing plus classes PLUS needing some free time to just breathe. Don’t get me wrong though, I definitely enjoy school and it’s all good so no worries!

Anyhow, my first photo project of the year was due yesterday and due to the quality of the Walmart prints I had to get done off (it looked like I’ve never learned the definition of focus and or quality) I figured I’d upload them here too. The assignment requirements were pretty open, as we just had to work with color however we interpreted it and I’m actually really happy with how a lot of the photos turned out that I have posted above even though I usually prefer to work with black and white.

Most of the photos are from around Corner Brook, some are on top of Marble Mountain, some down the bay or up the coast, and some are completely random I know. Comment and constructive criticism away, any feedback always helps!

Much love,
