i love getting the chance to stay home, sit down, and start ticking things off to do lists. i’m already a few coffees and teas deep, and after having mailed the jamaica proofs yesterday (wooo! largest editing job to date for sure) i have a few family sessions left to clear up and then nothing but school to focus on.
i think february is going to fly faster than january too. we’re already about a week in, and after logging a hard week next week we have mid-term break – so, that means if i burrow my head under a blanket for a few days i might actually get to enjoy break and come back ready for march. YES.
running count until my time is my own… 71 days.
much (snowy) love,
i’ve been on a pretty big clean-reorganize-DIY kick lately. i blame picking through anthropologie one too many times. what a dream job working for that company would be! has anyone seen their store installations? whoa. sure its retail, but its also definitely art.
i’m also confused, has anyone seen christmas vacation or new years? i seem to have lost about 3 weeks of time that i vaguely remember but there’s no way it’s already over. if you find it though, please let me know! hopeless optimism here. schoolwork has already returned full force, and between assignments and editing it’s flat out as per usual again. and not that i mind a schedule, i am just overly attached to sleep (and 8:30 classes are fairly unforgiving).
i hope everyone else’s january isn’t kicking in too bad!
i legitimately can’t say enough good about our trip. the sun, the heat, the beach. the food, the people, the wedding, the wedding party. to say i’m lucky to do what i do is an extremely large understatement.
jamaica, it was unreal!
I’m going to go out on a limb and say photographing a wedding like Kev & Holly’s is why I enjoy what I do. Now, I’ll totally admit I’ve done a few weddings in which afterwards, I thought the only way I would feel better would be by packing up my camera (lenses and all), putting everything in a bag, and launching it onto the side of a road next a cardboard sign saying “free” haphazardly propped up somewhere in it’s vicinity… My dues have definitely been paid on a few fronts. So when the day goes as fun as these two’s did, and you end up tearing it up (eyes wise and dance floor wise I might add) I can’t help but be genuinely jacked. There might be a bit of a negative “air” that blows around to admitting I am in fact a wedding photographer, but come on. Who else gets to hang out with people on one of the happiest days of their lives? That’s a lot of happy when the weddings start piling up!
You can’t really beat that.
After finishing up Joanne & Daniel’s wedding editing this past week I stumbled across another favorite when I found this shot! I actually split toned it, and I was really happy with the effect when I added a pink tinge to the highlights and another warm hue to the shadows.
The colors of the wedding were turquoise and yellows/oranges, so after seeing a blue-faded candle on the coffee table by a wood wall I overturned the candle on it’s side, placed the ring on the candles side, (held my breath and hoped it didn’t roll), and took this shot before heading in to get the bride zipping into her dress. Thoughts?
And it’s off to wedding number 2 of the weekend for me, wish me luck!
Deer Lake isn’t far away by any means (its maybe 30 minutes max) but a few weeks ago was actually my first time doing a session out there and I loved it. It was so nice to have a fresh location, and to get a chance to meet Jennifer and Andrew before their wedding this year too!
Now, just one more session to clue up and I’m totally finished with my editing. On that very related note, I’m having an awful time deleting photos from my last session – the baby is way too cute! Check out a photo here.
Another quick preview of the Chafe-Ryan wedding I got the chance to shoot last weekend! It was definitely a cold day for April (that’s snow you can see in the tunnel), but it was worth it and the day went really well! I’m definitely glad this was my first wedding of the summer, and it’ll be perfect to finish off in Jamaica this December. Not that I’m wishing away the summer though!
More posts to come soon! I’ve been in and out of town a lot these past few weeks so I have everything from photos and even a video from my Pop’s 70th birthday, photos from Port Rexton, Ellison, Bonavista, Bonaventure, and St. John’s to go up as well! I actually think I’ve taken more photos in these past few weeks than I have since I’ve gotten my camera. SO nice to be out of school and shoot for fun : )
