birthday bree

B-3 B-4 B-5 B-6 B-8i put up a quick preview of bree up just a few weeks ago, but seeing as per how TODAY is her actual birthday… and how her mom is a dream client (who shares my love of black and whites, can you tell?) i figured it’s worth putting up another load of favorites. she’s too cute not to share!

much love, and the happiest of birthdays to this very happy little girl!

bree; one year old

Beauty-4 Beauty-5this little princess is turning one this week and i’m SO happy her parents asked me out to their beautiful home in pinchgut to do some photos. she was so pleasant, and i got such a kick at her throwing her head back and laughing at her parents and my attempt to keep her attention!

this is just a quick preview, there’s a load more favorites and smash the cake photos to follow! bree… your just too cute.

much love,

mcdonald family

a few favorite shots of a fall shoot with the mcdonald family that you might remember from this smash the cake this past summer! i love sessions with this family because they’re always so relaxed and unscripted, which makes it so easy to catch the kid’s huge (and very different) personalities. i’m still cracking up at them, so thanks again guys! it was a hilarious afternoon.

much love,

Guess Who’s Birthday It Wasn’t?

Kids are so expressive.

I find sometimes that it’s the “Smash the Cakes” or family portrait sessions that challenge me the most, even over doing day long weddings. I think it’s because for a wedding I can generally take a more “documentary” approach to the day, and capture things as it comes and goes. For children? Kids are awesome, and I’ve met some hilarious kids doing this that make my job easy. But for some sessions I know it’s not going to go too smoothly. I mean, I can weather a full-on-screech with the best of them, especially after teaching swimming lessons to tots and children alike for two years.

Don’t want to swim? Cry away! Parents, pass me the kid anyway. They’ll stop eventually, my ears are immune!

Except this isn’t swimming lessons any more, and while I might be able to shoulder the cries I’m seriously doubting its the red-faced and teary-eyed shots parents are looking to have up over their walls. Logically I’m sure that if I was one years old, told to smash a cake in the sticky grass like it was normal, and ignore the stranger who’s holding up a huge black object that makes weird noises right up in my face, I’d kick up a fuss too. Hence the challenge! And as hard as it is to get the shot they’re looking for, it’s still always worth it. The expressions you manage to get sometimes (intentional or unintentional) are the best.

Much love!

find a cuter baby, and i’ll give you a million dollars

just kidding! if i had a million dollars to spare, it’d be more like good luck finding me.

but seriously, that child kills me. i show up on sunday for her 1st birthday party, and i turn a corner to find her sitting on the floor and what does she do when she sees me? she applauds. i just about died, considering she’d never done that before. takes her little hands, grins up at me, and just claps.

i know everyone says this, the whole “oh they grow up so fast,” but it honestly feels like it was days ago that on my birthday i got the best and most hilarious phone call from my aunt kimmy which kind of went like this:

“hey babe! happy birthday!!!!”

“thanks kimmy!! popping up soon?”

“i was on my way but i just got called into work! but i do have to tell you though, i’m pregnant!”

……. please note, this was said in the same tone and manner you’d inform someone you were out of milk.

………… please note I never go speechless. i generally talk way, way too much.

i nearly up and died, and after (legitimately) a full minute of silence i full out sobbed and the only thing i heard on the phone after that was kimmy laughing uncontrollably. she has ALWAYS said she’s never having kids, and always joked that i was her child and she’d had enough after me so the news was a shock to say the least. seriously.

and now i have an upside down book reading, mohawk haired (i genuinely hope her hair stays like this for as long as humanly possible), icing faced bundle of awesome i wouldn’t trade for anything. happy 1st birthday addy!! you are the BEST birthday gift i would have never ever thought to have asked for.

much love,

lauren

i just finished editing through a shoot i had in the park two weeks ago, and figured i’d share some of my favorites. lauren and her family were suuper easy to work with, not to mention her being ADORABLE. look at her cheeks! she is such a little doll.

i’m also now down to having one last wedding to finish, which I have to admit has definitely been my favorite so far. it was all shot at the beautiful grounds and fields at strawberry hill actually, and i’ve joked with the bride since that i’m only going to accept clients through her now because she knows how its done!

(stress free. do it stress free.)

much love,
